ABOUT JUDITH GEBHARD SMITH
I classify myself primarily as an expressionist. I have spent many years as a printmaker, five years developing neon sculptures, and for the last fourteen years, finding my niche as a pastellist. I hold a B.A. in Art History and a B.Sc.(as a graduate degree) in Art as Applied to Medicine. I spent eight years as the medical illustrator for McGill University in Montreal, Canada before moving to Olympia, Washington in 1972. In juried competition in pastel, I have been accepted into more than 50 national and international exhibits and have received 30 awards. I hold signature membership and “distinguished pastellist” status in the Northwest Pastel Society, and signature memberships in the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and Knickerbocker Artists, New York. I also maintain membership in Women Painters of Washington and The Society of Animal Artists, New York.
